Program Overview

SNU’s Master of Science in Management (MSM) program is designed to provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of business management principles, organizational behaviors, project management, operations, and human resource management. The management degree program equips learners with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively lead and manage a volatile business environment.

The curriculum includes a blend of theoretical frameworks and practical applications, ensuring our learners are prepared for real-world challenges. MSM degree students learn from professionals with extensive business backgrounds, focusing on skills like problem-solving and project management.

Our graduates emerge from the program with a robust skill set in leadership, critical thinking, and effective communication, making them well-prepared to take on high-level managerial roles and drive innovation within their organizations. Graduates with an MSM degree are prepared to lead people and organizations, manage as top-level decision-makers and project managers, and direct organizations toward success.

Textbooks: For this program, students are automatically opted into a program through Slingshot called Cengage Unlimited. This subscription based service will last through your entire program and will give you access to WebAssign courseware as well as any other digital Cengage Learning titles. Nearly all SNU M.S. Management courses use digital textbooks available through Cengage. If desired, students can choose a different plan offered through Slingshot, or opt out of these benefits.

This 34 credit hour graduate program will prepare you to be a leader in the world of business. Students in this program take one class at a time so they can master one subject before moving onto the next. You will learn to clearly communicate as a professional, analyze information, critically think about the economic environment, and more. Continue reading for a full course list with descriptions.

BUSINESS ESSENTIALS

Credit hours: 4 This course provides a foundation in professional business concepts related to accounting, economics, finance, global business, marketing, management, and business law and ethics.

EXPLORING BUSINESS STRATEGIES

Credit hours: 3 This course explores the managerial skills necessary for strategy development.  Emphasis will be placed upon generating value and sustaining competitive advantage within the marketplace. 

ETHICS AND LAW

Credit hours: 3 This course examines law, regulation, and ethics within business. Emphasis will be placed on the laws that regulate business relationships and attention will be given to the importance of ethical practices upon the employee, firm, consumer, and society. Case studies are incorporated to assist the student in understanding ethical practices and the laws governing today’s business environment as well as social responsibility and ethical leadership.

MARKETING FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

Credit hours: 3 This course incorporates the techniques necessary for formulating domestic and global marketing strategies for the 21st century. Emphasis will be placed on the evaluation of marketing opportunities, analysis of marketing mix activities, and assessment of corporate marketing strategy implementation.

GLOBAL BUSINESS

Credit hours: 3 This course explores business operations necessary to compete in the global marketplace. Attention is focused on business models and barriers to global expansion such as cultural, political, or economic aspects.

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP FOR ORGANIZATIONS

Credit hours: 3 This course enhances the ability to lead organizations and their members. Emphasis will be placed upon organizational behavior theory, effective communication practices, motivational theory, and organizational culture analysis.

MANAGEMENT ANALYTICS

Credit hours: 3 This course emphasizes the usage of quantitative techniques to support strategic managerial decision-making.  Focus will be on the analysis of data and application of findings rather than mathematical developments, with the goal to solve practical business problems. 

QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

Credit hours: 3 This course focuses on management practices related to implementing a quality management system. Emphasis will be placed on the customer, product quality, process approach and improvement, evidence-based decision making, and technology.

GLOBAL LEADERSHIP

Credit hours: 3 This course focuses on leadership practices that address issues in the global environment. Emphasis will be placed on culture, motivation, organizational behavior, and team performance.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Credit hours: 3 This course focuses on developing an organized approach to managing a project. Emphasis will be placed on planning, scheduling, controlling, resource allocation, and performance measurement.

STRATEGIC HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Credit hours: 3 This course focuses on the framework for helping organizational leaders/hr leaders/leaders develop a superior workforce. Emphasis is placed on performance management, coaching, mentoring, and succession planning.

Meet our Program Administration

Dr. Keith Toles Jr.

Program Director

Dr. Toles is the Program Director of Graduate Programs in Business at Southern Nazarene University and is responsible for the MBA, MBA-HC, and MSM programs. He holds the rank of Associate Professor and leads a team of 60 faculty and staff at 3 campuses. His areas of research include strategic management, sustainability, and DEIB. Dr. Toles teaches graduate, courses in business with a focus on strategy and managment. Dr. Toles’ transformative leadership style and scholar-practitioner experience have made him a respected figure in the academic community and marketplace.

He recently received the ACBSP Teaching Excellence Award and the Best of Region Award. Dr. Toles is a serial entrepreneur and has founded and operated several businesses in the sports apparel, marketing, transportation, e-commerce, and lawn & landscape industries. This distinction is particularly meaningful as it recognizes one alumnus from the past 15 years based on their exceptional achievements and positive impact on higher education.

Jeff Seyfert

Assistant Director

Jeff Seyfert is an SNU alumnus (1987, BS in Marketing) with an MBA from the University of Tulsa. Jeff started at SNU as a full-time faculty member in the School of Business in 1990. He taught a variety of courses in the areas of Marketing, Management, Economics and Finance for 10 years. He then moved over to Graduate Programs in Business where he served as Marketing Director for eight years, including the last three as Interim Director. Since 2008, Jeff has served as the Assistant Director for Graduate Programs in Business. Jeff continues to teach on an adjunct basis for Professional Studies and the School of Business, along with an occasional Graduate Business course.
